Why We Test with Real Hare Fur

Every scissor we sell is personally tuned and sharpened by Harebone Harrison just before it's packaged and shipped. This final step ensures your shears arrive perfectly sharp, perfectly set, and ready to perform right out of the box. There's nothing worse than unboxing a new tool only to find it folds hair or feels dull—something we've all heard horror stories about from other brands on social media.

To guarantee that razor-sharp performance, we extensively test each scissor on real hare fur (also known as rabbit fur). Why hare fur? It's the ultimate testing medium for professional grooming shears. Its fine texture and density reveal any imperfections in the edge or set that dog or cat hair might miss. That's why our brand is proudly called Harebone Shears—it's a nod to the gold standard we use.

We work hard to clean off every last strand after testing, but occasionally a hair or two sneaks through. If you spot a speck of hare fur on your new New Moon scissors, smile—it's proof they've been rigorously tested and approved.

We never sell used or returned scissors as new. Period. Every pair that leaves our shop is 100% fresh off the final tuning by Harebone Harrison himself. Once a package is handed off to USPS, it's officially "used" in our books. Any returns go toward demos, competitions, or—most importantly—helping groomers in need. We donate them to professionals displaced by fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, theft, or other hardships.
